The Mass Media and Power

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou médií a jejich vlivem na mínění veřejnosti. V práci se dočtete o funkcích a problémech médií, o médiích jako politickém nástroji, metodách a účincích manipulace masmédií. Praktická část práce se zaměřuje bezprostředně na manipulaci událostí v médiích a ve výsledku i konzumenty mediálního produktu. Pomocí kritické analýzy článků se ukazuje, jak v praxi média formují názor společnosti.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the notion of mass media, its characteristic features, evolution and impact on public opinion. Theoretical part determines functions of the media, considers role of the media as a policy instrument as well as examines manipulation methods and effects of the mass media. In practical part of the paper, research is conducted to find out whether different mass media when covering the same event are able to give totally different impression about what has happened thus manipulating the opinions of the media product consumers. Results of the critical analyses demonstrate how mass media shapes the views of the society.
