A Quantitative Analysis of Facebook Statuses Connected with the City of Karviná

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá pomocí kvantitativnělingvistické analýzy facebookové profily, které jsou navázány na město Karviná. Rozebírán bude oficiální profil města (Karviná ŽIJE), profil sportovního klubu města (STaRS Karviná, s.r.o.), profil místní restaurace (Restaurace Ovečka), statusy politických aktivistů (Tomas Chorzempa, Martin Juraszek, Zuzka Klusová, Veronika Tkaczyková, Jan Škorvánek), studentský profil (Business Gate) a profil YouTubera působícího v USA (Michal Šopor). Tyto subjekty byly vybrány především proto, že se aktivně účastnily diskuze na oficiálním profilu města. Korpusy byly sestaveny ze statusů zveřejněných v září 2019. Stylometrická analýza zahrne výzkum slovního bohatství (index MATTR), lexikální komplexnosti (index ATL), aktivity (index Q) a slovesných vzdáleností (index VD). Od kolokační analýzy a rozboru klíčových slov jsme z rozsahových důvodů upustili. Cílem práce je provést kvantitativní výzkum jazyka používaného na sociálních sítích a určit, zdali se profily od sebe stylisticky liší, či zdali je jejich jazyk unifikovaný.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis investigates, via quantitative-linguistic analyses, Facebook profiles which are connected with the city of Karviná. The subjects of the study are the official profile of the city (Karviná ŽIJE), the profile of the city's sports club (STaRS Karviná, s.r.o.), a profile of a local restaurant (Restaurace Ovečka), statuses of political activists (Tomas Chorzempa, Martin Juraszek, Zuzka Klusová, Veronika Tkaczyková, Jan Škorvánek), a student profile (Business Gate), and a profile of a YouTuber working in the US (Michal Šopor). These subjects were selected mainly because of the fact they actively participated in the discussion on the official profile of the city. The corpora were compiled from the statuses posted in September 2019. The stylometric analysis involves research on the vocabulary richness (the MATTR index), lexical complexity (the ATL index), activity (the Q index), and verb distances (the VD index). Given the length of the thesis, we decided to omit the collocation and keyword analyses. The goal of the thesis is to carry out quantitative research on language of social networking sites and to determine whether profiles stylistically differ from each other, or whether their language is unified.
