Methodology for determining the capacity of railway stations using computer simulation

Abstract:

Železniční doprava představuje jeden ze základních způsobů dopravy osob a zboží. Infrastruktura železnice je restriktivnější a omezenější (než je tomu např. u infrastruktury automobilové dopravy) a případné technické problémy na zařízeních či přetížení části infrastruktury mohou negativně ovlivnit mnoho vlaků na železnici. Techniky určování kapacity na železnici slouží k analýze a vyhodnocení, jakou kvalitu provozu lze na dané části železniční infrastruktury (a s ní související realizovanou vlakovou dopravu) očekávat. Kapacitu lze zjišťovat s užitím různých technik a matematických aparátů, zahrnujících metody analytické, grafické a experimentální. Disertační práce se primárně věnuje návrhu inovativní metodiky pro určování kapacity železničních stanic s využitím techniky počítačové simulace. Navrhovaná metodika využívá techniku vnořených reflektivních simulací, která jako podpora rozhodování umožňuje hledat řešení konfliktů vznikajících při stochastických simulacích. Disertační práce se dále zaměřuje na popis techniky vnořených reflektivních simulací a jejich uplatnění jako obecné podpory rozhodování v simulaci. V poslední části práce je navržená metodika pro zjišťování kapacity železničních stanic aplikována na rozsáhlé případové studii.

Abstract:

Rail transport is one of the basic modes of transport of people and goods. The railway infrastructure is more restrictive and limited (than, for example, in the case of road transport infrastructure) and possible technical problems on equipment or overload of part of the infrastructure can negatively affect many trains on the railway. Techniques for determining the railway capacity are used to analyse and evaluate the quality of traffic that can be expected on a given part of the railway infrastructure (and related rail transport). Capacity can be determined using a variety of techniques and mathematical apparatus, including analytical, graphical, and experimental methods. The dissertation primarily deals with the design of an innovative methodology for determining the capacity of railway stations using computer simulation techniques. The proposed methodology uses the technique of reflective nested simulations, which as a decision-making support allows to find resolutions to conflicts arising in stochastic simulations. The dissertation further focuses on the description of the technique of reflective nested simulations and their application as a general decision-making support in simulation. In the final part of the dissertation, the proposed methodology for determining the capacity of railway stations is applied to an extensive case study.
