Attachment-related partnership satisfaction in emerging adulthood

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá partnerskou spokojeností v období vynořující se dospělosti, attachmentem k partnerovi a vztahy s rodiči v dětství. Cílem práce je prozkoumat souvislost mezi kvalitou vztahu s rodiči v dětství (hodnocenou prostřednictvím vzpomínek na rodičovské chování v průběhu dětství) a kvalitou romantické citové vazby v dospělosti (vyjádřenou mírou úzkostnosti a vyhýbavosti). Dále nás zajímá, zda existuje souvislost mezi povahou romantické citové vazby (vyjádřenou mírou úzkostnosti a vyhýbavosti) a subjektivní partnerskou spokojeností. Výzkumný soubor tvoří 164 respondentů ve věku 20-27 let, kteří se nacházejí v partnerském vztahu. Sběr dat probíhal formou online dotazníkového šetření. Využity byly české verze škál Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR- 36) k nalezení typu citové vazby k partnerovi. Dále Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) ke zjištění vztahu k matce a k otci v dětství. Partnerská spokojenost byla měřena pomocí škály Realitionship assesment scale (RAS). Bylo zjištěno, že chování matky a otce v dětství má vliv na míru úzkostnosti a vyhýbavosti v partnerských vztazích ve vynořující se dospělosti. Výsledky ukazují, že optimální rodičovský styl jak u matky, tak u otce je spojen s nejnižší mírou vztahové úzkostnosti a vyhýbavosti. Dále bylo potvrzeno, že čím nižší je míra úzkostnosti a vyhýbavosti v romantické citové vazbě, tím vyšší je partnerská spokojenost. Bylo také objeveno, že jedinci s vyhýbavou romantickou citovou vazbou vykazují nižší partnerskou spokojenost, jak osoby s vazbou úzkostnou.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis examines partnership satisfaction in emerging adulthood, romantic attachment, parenting behaviour and attachment in childhood. We ask whether there is an association between the quality of the relationship with parents in childhood (as assessed by means of memories of parental behavior during childhood) and the quality of romantic attachment in adulthood (as expressed by measures of anxiety and avoidance). Next, we ask whether there is an association between the nature of romantic attachment (as expressed by measures of anxiety and avoidance) and subjective partnership satisfaction in emerging adulthood. The research sample consists of 164 respondents aged 20-27 years who are in a partnership. The data was collected through an online questionnaire survey. Czech version of the Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR- 36) scale was used to find the type of romantic attachment to the partner. In addition, the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) was used to find out how respondents retrospectively rated their mother's and father's behaviour. Partnership satisfaction was measured using the Realitionship assesment scale (RAS). Mother‘s and father‘s behavior in the childhood was found to have an effect on the level of anxiety and avoidance in partnerships in emerging adulthood. Results show that optimal parenting style for both mother and father is associated with the lowest levels of romantic attachment anxiety and avoidance. It was further confirmed that the lower the level of anxiety and avoidance in romantic attachment, the higher the partnerhip satisfaction. It was also discovered that individuals with avoidant romantic attachment showed lower partnership satisfaction than those with anxious romantic attachment.
