Drapery all´antica and clothing styles of antiquity in the 19th century fine arts

Abstract:

Antické oděvy a jejich umělecká stylizace v podobě řasených drapérií, především vysoká míra idealizace v klasickém řeckém sochařství a zvlněné záhyby vlajících i těsně přiléhajících oděvů, se staly vzorem pro pozdější umělecká ztvárnění. Práce se zabývá analýzou drapériových systémů a způsoby stylizace antického oděvu a jejich recepcí ve výtvarném umění 19. století. V popředí stojí téma antikizující drapérie a antického oděvu v českém a evropském sochařství a malířství, přičemž je kladen důraz na srovnání typologie oděvu v antickém umění a uměleckých dílech 19. století. V tomto kontextu jsou představeny také příklady uměleckých inspirací dobovými archeologickými objevy.

Abstract:

Ancient clothing and its artistic stylization in the form of draped garments, especially the high degree of idealization in classical Greek sculpture and the wavy folds of flowing and clinging draped garments, became a model for later artistic representations. This thesis analyzes drapery systems and methods of stylizing ancient clothing and their reception in 19th-century fine arts. The theme of drapery all´antica and clothing styles of antiquity in Czech and European sculpture and painting are foregrounded, with an emphasis on the comparison of clothing typologies in ancient art and artworks of the 19th century. In this context, examples of artistic inspiration from contemporary archaeological discoveries are also presented.
