Word-order Patterns in Non-conversational Speech

Abstract:

The thesis aims at comparing three different registers in terms of grammatical structure: written discourse, conversation and public speech as an example of non-conversational speech. The thesis is divided into three thematic units. First, it deals with theoretical background necessary for the analysis - overview of clause elements, sentence patterns and clause types. Second, general differences between written and spoken discourse are described and then compared with public speech features. Last, the actual analysis is treated, and the thesis concludes by comparison of sentence patterns occurrence in the three different kinds of texts.
