Substance use among humanities and technical college students

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce si klade za cíl zjistit a porovnat rozdíly v oblasti užívání návykových látek u vysokoškolských studentů humanitních a technických oborů. Práce je členěna do dvou částí, a to do teoretické a praktické. Teoretickou část tvoří tři kapitoly, z nichž první poskytuje základní přehled v oblasti drogové problematiky. Druhá kapitola specifikuje studium na vysoké škole a charakterizuje vysokoškolského studenta z pohledu vývojové psychologie. Poslední kapitola pojednává o příčinách užívání návykových látek se zřetelem na zkoumaný populační segment vysokoškolských studentů. Empirická část této bakalářské práce představuje provedené kvantitativně orientované výzkumné šetření, pro které byla využita metoda dotazování prostřednictvím elektronického dotazníkového šetření. Do výzkumu se participovalo celkem 478 záměrně zvolených respondentů, jejichž výběr se orientoval dle Klasifikace oborů vzdělání (CZ-ISCED-F 2013). Výběrový vzorek humanitních oborů byl tvořen studenty z Ostravské univerzity a z Masarykovy univerzity v Brně. Technický vzorek reprezentovali studenti z Vysokého učení technického v Brně a z Vysoké školy báňské v Ostravě. Dotazníkové šetření se skládalo ze tří sekcí. V úvodní části se zjišťovaly relevantní informace k podrobnější identifikaci respondentů. Druhá část se zaměřovala na intenzitu v užívání návykových látek v průběhu studia na vysoké škole. Závěrečná sekce se zabývala zjišťováním motivačních faktorů, jež podněcují vysokoškolské studenty k užívání návykových látek. Výsledky především potvrzují přítomnost legálních návykových látek u studentů humanitních a technických oborů. Pravidelná konzumace nelegálních návykových látek v průběhu studia na vysoké škole je u obou zaměření zcela minimální.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis aims to find out and compare the differences in the use of addictive substances among university students of humanities and technical fields. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part consists of three chapters, the first of which provides a basic overview of the drug issue. The second chapter specifies university studies and characterizes the university student from the perspective of developmental psychology. The last chapter discusses the causes of the use of addictive substances with regard to the studied population segment of university students. The empirical part of this bachelor's thesis represents a quantitatively oriented research study, for which the method of questioning through an electronic questionnaire survey was used. A total of 478 deliberately chosen respondents participated in the research, whose selection was based on the Classification of Education Fields (CZ-ISCED-F 2013). The sample of humanities was made up of students from the University of Ostrava and from the Masaryk University in Brno. The technical sample was represented by students from the University of Technology in Brno and the VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava. The questionnaire survey consisted of three sections. In the introductory part, relevant information was sought for a more detailed identification of the respondents. The second part focused on the intensity of the use of addictive substances during studies at the university. The final section dealt with identifying the motivational factors that encourage university students to use addictive substances. The results mainly confirm the presence of legal addictive substances among students of humanities and technical fields. The regular consumption of illegal addictive substances during studies at the university is quite minimal for both specializations.
