Ukrainian minority in Brno

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je věnována problematice ukrajinské národnostní menšiny v Brně. Rešeršní část představuje historický vývoj ukrajinské imigrace do Česka a Brna a pohled na danou menšinu v odborné literatuře. Dále následuje statistická analýza, kde je na brněnské Ukrajince nahlíženo prostřednictvím dat z oficiálních veřejně dostupných zdrojů. Podstatná část práce je pak věnována vlastnímu šetření s použitím jak kvantitativních, tak kvalitativních metod za účelem zhodnocení míry integrace a organizovanosti ukrajinských imigrantů v Brně. Na závěr se práce snaží postihnout role a synergii různých aktérů působících v zájmovém území ve prospěch ukrajinské menšiny. Hlavním zjištěním je různorodost a nejednotnost ukrajinské komunity v Brně a existence spíše několika odlišných skupin ukrajinských imigrantů, nežli jednotné ukrajinské menšiny.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is devoted to the issue of the Ukrainian national minority in Brno. The research part presents the historical development of Ukrainian immigration to the Czech Republic and Brno and the way the studied minority is treated in academic literature. The next part is a statistical analysis where the Ukrainians in Brno are looked at from the point of view of official publicly accessible statistics. A substantial part of the thesis is then devoted to the author’s own research using both quantitative and qualitative methods with the aim to evaluate the integration of the Ukrainian immigrants in Brno and the cohesion of their community. The final part is an attempt to understand the roles of different institutions supporting the Ukrainian minority in the studied area and the cooperation between them. The thesis’ main finding is the diversity and the lack of cohesion of the Ukrainian community in Brno as well as the existence of a few different groups of Ukrainian immigrants rather than of a uniformed Ukrainian minority.
