The Role and Status of Midwife in Early Modern Society in the Light of Scientic, Medical and Canonical Texts

Abstract:

Práce usiluje poskytnout obraz porodní báby v raném novověku v jeho komplexnosti. Pozornost je věnována nejen praktické rovině pomoci při porodu, ale i dalším dimenzím činnosti porodních bab, jako provádění křtu z nouze, poskytování psychické opory a duchovní útěchy v průběhu porodu. Práce se snaží přinést jiný pohled a interpretaci v otázkách vnímání porodní báby a jejích rolí společností než dosavadní domácí odborná historická produkce

Abstract:

The thesis makes efforts to give a comprehensive picture of early modern midwives. It is focused on the part of the midwive´s tasks: helping at childbearing, emergency baptism, psychological support and spiritual consolation during the birth. The thesis would like to bring a different view and interpretation in questions of perception of the midwife and her social roles by the society than it is presented by the existing domestic historiography
