Relationship of body, costume and video mapping in contemporary scenography

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zameria na spôsoby využitia kostýmu ako vizuálneho i významotvorného prvku v súčasnej divadelnej a predovšetkým scénografickej tvorbe. V dnešnej dobe, kedy sú možnosti divadla takmer neobmedzené, množstvo tvorcov posúva hranicu chápania toho, čo označujeme pojmom kostým. Cieľom tejto práce je rozobrať spôsoby spracovania už vytvorených kostýmov pomocou technológie video mapping- u. Sledovaním prieniku dvoch línii: experimentálneho kostýmu a video mapping- u na 3D objektoch; a následným predstavením základných spôsobov ich prepojenia. Súčasťou práce bude i analýza vybraných kostýmových ukážok z divadelných predstavení, prehliadok, či experimentov, ako napríklad: Maltský žid (2002) či Everest (2015). Východiskom textu budú publikácie zamerané na kostým Alternativy a nové cesty kostýmního výtvarnictví (2013) od Simony Rybákovej, Český divadelní kostým (2011) od kolektívu autorov, Kostýmová tvorba: prednášky (2009) Milana Čorby či publikácie z platformy Critical costume a pre video mapping: Projection mapping (2016) od kolektívu autorou, The Cambridge introduction to scenography (2009) od McKinney-a a Butterworth-a. Práca bude slúžiť na zoznámenie sa s problematikou a možnosťami spojenia kostýmu a video mapping- u. Tým vytvorí základnú platformu informácií, pre budúcich tvorcov, snažiacich sa o experimentálny vývin kostýmu touto metódou.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis will focus on ways of using costumes as visual and overall significant medium in contemporary theatre, especially as a part of scenic design. Nowadays, the possibilities in theatres are nearly endless, thus many creators discover new horizons of understanding of what can be called a costume. This work is aiming to achieve an analysis of already-created costumes made by video mapping technology which is seen by following an intersection of two systems: experimental costumes and video mapping done on 3D objects; and the introduction of the basic ways of this linkage. The thesis will also analyze selected costumes from theatre performances, shows, or experiments such as: The Jew of Malta (2002) or Everest (2015). The text will be based on publications focusing on costume design Alternativy a nové cesty kostýmního výtvarnictví (2013) by Simona Rybáková, Český divadelní kostým (2011) by collective author, Kostýmová tvorba: prednášky (2009) by Milan Čorba or publications published on Critical costume and for video mapping: Projection mapping (2016) by collective author, The Cambridge introduction to scenography (2009) by McKinney and Butterworth. This work will serve to get acquainted with the issue and possibilities of combining costume and video mapping. Overall, this will manifest basic information for future creators trying to experimentally develop costume using this method.
