The young farmer in Slovakia

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is dedicated to the generation of young farmers who decided to make their living by farming in Slovakia. It deals with their role- their tasks, mission and purpose of their job. Regarding to continuous aging of the population working in the agricultural sector, this young farming generation could be considered to be a particular phenomenon, that can have its own specific meaning in our society. The main goal of my thesis is to clarify the reasons, which are inspiring young farming generation to found their own farms and granges. In the theoretical part- social, public and legislative connections of the role of a farmer are being introduced. These are followed by wider description of the context explaining an approach towards agricultural land and tendencies of the state dealing with the support of the small producers. An empirical part of this thesis contains methods of qualitative research to describe the most often used motives and reasons of the farming as well as their barriers and possibilities to overcome them. Based on the interviews with 14 respondents, outcome of this thesis can be divided into categories summarizing particular motivations and barriers which are being discussed in terms of the insights gained previously in the theoretical part.

Abstract:

Práca sa zaoberá pôsobením, úlohou a poslaním mladých farmárov, ktorí sa rozhodli venovať farmárčeniu na Slovensku. Vzhľadom na postupné starnutie poľnohospodárskej populácie je mladá farmárska generácia určitým fenoménom, ktorý má v spoločnosti špecifický význam. Hlavným cieľom práce je objasniť dôvody, ktoré vedú mladú generáciu farmárov k zakladaniu vlastných fariem a hospodárstiev. V teoretickej časti sú uvedené sociálne, spoločenské a legislatívne súvislosti pôsobenia farmára v spoločnosti. Ďalej sú v práci popísané širšie súvislosti prístupu k poľnohospodárskej pôde a postoje štátu v oblasti podpôr pre maloproducentov. Empirická časť práce použitím metódy kvalitatívneho výskumu popisuje najčastejšie motívy a dôvody farmárčenia ako i bariéry a možnosti ich prekonávania. Na základe rozhovorov so štrnástimi respondentmi vyplývajú kategórie jednotlivých motivácií a bariér, ktoré sú ďalej diskutované s poznatkami z teoretickej časti.
