Development and Transition in Laos

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou politické a ekonomické tranzice ve státu Laos. Teoreticko-metodologická část práce se zabývá stěžejními okruhy studie a základním popisem práce s hlavními zdroji. Na konci teoretické části nalezneme základní definici termínu tranzice. Následující praktická část se věnuje geografickým podmínkám státu. Následuje historická část, kde jsou zmíněny hlavní historické milníky, které měly vliv na tvorbu státu Laos. Posléze na to naváže kulturní a politická tranzice Laosu. Toto dále poskytne čtenáři hlubší vhled na situaci v Laosu a přidá do povědomí, jak se stát utvářel. Na to naváže část ekonomické tranzice, kde jsou zprvu popsány hlavní ekonomické reformy, posléze jsou popsány jejich účely, výsledky a důsledky. Na konci této části jsou popsány ekonomické úskalí dnešního Laosu, a jak si Laos poradil s covidovou situací. V poslední části práce je zmíněná integrace Laosu do ASEAN a program RELATED. V závěru jsou zodpovězeny úvodem definované výzkumné otázky a je zmíněno i doporučení pro další výzkum.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the political as well as economic transition of Laos. The theoretical and methodological part of the thesis explores the most relevant areas and main sources. At the end of the theoretical part, the definition of the term transition is provided. The following practical part focuses on the country's geographical conditions. Next, in the historical part, the milestones which have had an influence on the formation of Laos are mentioned. Then, cultural and political transition of Laos are described. This gives the reader a deeper insight into the situation in Laos and enlightens the creation of the country. After that, in the economic transition, the main reforms, including their purposes, results and consequences are discussed. Lastly, economic difficulties of today's Laos are touched upon, for example how the Covid-19 pandemic was tackled. The final part of the thesis covers Laos's integration into ASEAN and the RELATED project. The concluding part contains not only the answers to the research questions, but also some recommendations for further research.
