The Correspondence of Voltaire and the Formation of his Reputation

Abstract:

Thesis deals with correspondence Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire, examines the most frequent correspondents, topics and its importance. On the basis of three selected peroids of Voltaire's correspondence this thesis tries to find out what are his ways to win recognition, what are the reactions to the success or failure and how he accepts the critique which is focused on their works and on his person. The result of thesis is a treatise of the formation of his image not only in the literary world but also in the political world.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá korespondencí osvícenského filosofa Voltaira, zkoumá nejčastější korespondenty, témata i její význam a přínos. Na základě tří vybraných etap Voltairovy korespondence se práce snaží zachytit, jaké postupy autor využívá k prosazení sebe sama, jaké jsou jeho reakce na úspěch či neúspěch a jak se staví ke kritice, která je zaměřená na jeho díla i osobu. Vyústěním práce je pojednání o utváření literátova obrazu nejen ve světě literárním, ale rovněž i ve světe politickém.
