Young adults and their parents: Communication and Cooperation

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vnímáním rodinných vztahů očima mladých dospělých. V teoretické části jsou popsány vývojové etapy od adolescence až po vynořující se / mladou dospělost. Pozornost je věnována konceptu sebehodnocení. V kapitole věnující se rodině jsou popsány typy rodin, rodinné vztahy a rozvod. V poslední části je věnována pozornost rodinné komunikaci, jejímu dělení a konfliktům v rodině a mezi rodiči. Praktická část představuje kvantitativní výzkum věnovaný vnímání rodinných vztahů. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 66 mladých dospělých (54,5 % žen), jejich průměrný věk byl 21,9 let (SD = 2,4; min. = 18; max. = 27). Data byla získána prostřednictvím online administrace dotazníkových metod. Bylo zjištěno, že v míře sebehodnocení a ve vnímání ohrožení rodičovským konfliktem se mladí dospělí z rozvedených a nerozvedených rodin neliší. Respondenti z rozvedených rodin komunikují více s matkami než otci, dále pak tito mladí lidé hodnotí míru spolupráce mezi rodiči a důvěru k matce jako nižší než ti dospělí, v jejichž rodinách rozvod neproběhl. Mezi hodnocením rodičovské spolupráce a vnímáním ohrožení rodičovským konfliktem nebyla nalezena souvislost. Byly nalezeny pozitivní vztahy mezi mírou sebehodnocení a důvěrou, komunikací ve vztahu k otci a negativní vztahy mezi mírou sebehodnocení a odcizením k oběma rodičům. Výsledky jsou interpretovány a diskutovány.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis deals with family relationships as perceived by young adults. Developmental periods from adolescence to emerging/young adulthood are described in theoretical part. Attention is paid to the concept of self-esteem too. Chapter about family is focused on family typology, family relationships and divorce. Family communication and its classification, family and interparental conflicts are described in the last chapter. Quantitative study was focused on family relationships perception. 66 young adults (54,5 % of women) in average age 21,9 years (SD = 2,4; min. = 18; max. = 27) were given online questionnaires assessing their perception of relationship quality to mother and father, interparental conflict, and coparenting cooperation. It was found that young adults from divorced and non-divorced families did not differ in self-esteem level and in the perception of threat by interparental conflicts. Communication with mother is higher than communication with father in divorced families; similarly, higher coparenting between parents and higher trust to mother were found in young adults from non-divorced families than in adults from divorced families. No significant correlation between self-esteem and conflict threat was found. There is positive relationship between self-esteem, trust, and communication with father, and negative relationship between self-esteem and alienation to both parents. Study results are interpreted and discussed.
