Barriers for women to reach managerial positions in selected organization

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na problematiku bariér bránících ženám v postupu na manažerské pozice ve vybrané organizaci. Cílem práce je odpovědět na hlavní výzkumnou otázku, která zní „Jaké bariéry brání ženám v postupu na manažerské pozice ve vybrané organizaci?“. Teoretická část se zabývá popisem manažerské pozice, včetně popisu stylů vedení. Dále popisuje koncepty genderu v organizaci a genderové organizace, věnuje se i skleněnému stropu a v neposlední řadě pak dalším bariérám (např. diskriminaci nebo nesouladu mezi pracovním a osobním životem). K zodpovězení výzkumných otázek využívá kvalitativní výzkumné strategie, sběr dat proběhl formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. V metodologické části je popsán samotný výzkumný vzorek, proces jeho výběru a možná omezení výzkumu. V empirické části je pak provedena samotná analýza a interpretace získaných dat. V závěrečné diskuzi je zodpovězena hlavní výzkumná otázka a navrženo konkrétní opatření.

Abstract:

This thesis is focusing on the issues of barriers for women to reach managerial positions in a selected organization. The aim of the thesis is to answer the main research question: „Which barriers prevent women from reaching managerial positions in a selected organization?“. The theoretical part deals with the description of managerial position, including description of leadership styles. Next, the concepts of gender in organization, gendered organization and glass ceiling are introduced. Last but not least it deals with other barriers (such as discrimination or disharmony in work-family balance). To answer the research questions a qualitative research strategy is used and data collection is realized in form of semi-structured interviews. The methodological part then describes the research sample itself as well as the process of its choice and possible limitations of the research. In the empirical part the analysis itself and an intrepretation of collected data are made. In the final discussion the main research question is answered and one specific intervention is proposed.
