Physical activity and mathematics eduction in the sixth grade

Abstract:

Cílem práce je porovnat tepovou frekvenci a energetický výdej studentů při hodině matematiky s pohybovou aktivitou a při klasické hodině matematiky. Dalším našim cílem je porovnat získané znalosti studentů po vyučovací hodině matematiky s pohybovou aktivitou a klasicky vedené vyučovací hodině matematiky. Studie se zúčastnilo 28 studentů primy Gymnázia Mikuláše Koperníka. Studenti byli rozděleni na dvě skupiny a byli sledováni v průběhu dvou vyučovacích hodin. V první hodině byla v jedné skupině matematika vyučována s pohybovou aktivitou a v druhé skupině klasickým způsobem. V druhé hodině si skupiny roli vyměnily. Během vyučovacích hodin byla sledována tepová frekvence a energetický výdej studentů prostřednictvím hodinek Polar M400. Po ukončení hodiny byly formou testu zjištěny získané znalosti studentů. U průměrné a maximální tepové frekvence došlo u žáků při výuce s ?pohybovou aktivitou k jejímu signifikantnímu zvýšení při porovnání s ?klasickou výukou. Statisticky významný rozdíl byl rovněž zjištěn i u výdeje energie. Mezi získanými znalostmi v hodině s pohybovou aktivitou a klasické hodině matematiky nebyl statisticky významný rozdíl a výsledný efekt byl zanedbatelný. Ze získaných výsledků vyplynulo, že pohybovou aktivitu lze zařazovat i do hodin matematiky. Zvýší se tím pohybová aktivita žáků, aniž by klesla úroveň získaných znalostí.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to compare the heart rate and energy expenditure of students in a mathematics lesson with physical activity to a traditionally taught mathematics lesson. Another goal is to compare the acquired knowledge of students after a mathematics lesson with physical activity to a traditionally conducted mathematics lesson. The study involved 28 sixth grade students of the Mikuláš Koperník Grammar School in Bílovec. The students were divided into two groups and were monitored during two lessons. In the first lesson, mathematics was taught in one group with physical activity and in the second group in a classical way. In the second lesson, the groups changed roles. During the lessons, the heart rate and energy expenditure of the students were monitored by means of a Polar M400 watch. At the end of the lesson, the students were tested to determine the level of their acquired knowledge of mathematics. The average and maximum heart rate of students during the lesson with activity was significantly increased in comparison with the lesson taught in a traditional way. A statistically significant difference has also been detected in energy expenditure. There has not been any statistically significant difference between the acquired knowledge in the mathematics lesson with physical activity and the mathematics lesson taught in a traditional way, therefore the resulting effect was negligible. The obtained results showed that physical activity can be included in mathematics lessons. This will increase the physical activity of students without decreasing the level of acquired knowledge.
