The Analysis and the Evaluation of the Translation of Daniel Glattauer´s Novel Gut gegen Nordwind

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with an analysis and evaluation of the Czech translation of the novel Gut gegen Nordwind written by an Austrian writer Daniel Glattauer. The novel has been translated into the Czech language by Iva Kratochvílová. In the theoretical part, the polysystem theory is presented in more details as it represents the basis of a model of translation criticism suggested by Raymond van den Broeck. In the practical part, the already mentioned model is used to carry out the criticism of the translation. So called ?textemes? appearing in the original version are defined and it is being observed if they can be found in the translation and how they were translated. Specific extracts from the text are employed as examples. In a special chapter, further shifts that occur in the translation are analysed.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou a zhodnocením českého překladu románu Gut gegen Nordwind rakouského spisovatele Daniela Glattauera, který zhotovila Iva Kratochvílová. V teoretické části je blíže představena polysystémová teorie, z níž vychází v diplomové práci použitý model kritiky překladu od Raymonda van den Broecka. V rámci praktické části je s použitím již zmíněného modelu provedena kritika překladu. Jsou určeny tzv. textémy objevující se v originálu a je sledováno, zda se nacházejí rovněž v překladu a jak byly přeloženy. K tomu jsou použity konkrétní ukázky z textu. Ve zvláštní kapitole jsou pak analyzovány další posuny, které se v překladu vyskytují.
