The Dark Therapy as a Method of (Self)Knowledge (the Week in the Darkness on the Way to Ourselves)

Abstract:

Prezentovaná práce se zaměřuje na zkušenost klientů s neetablovanou praktikou zvanou terapie tmou (TT). Výchozí metodologickou pozicí je narativně orientovaný přístup. Výzkumný soubor tvoří sedm respondentů, kteří ve většině případů podstoupili týdenní pobyt ve tmě u vybraného provozovatele v době 6 - 12 měsíců před výzkumným setkáním. Využili jsme hloubkový individuální narativní rozhovor se současným využitím Čáry života a modifikované Morrisovy metody Cesty života. Cílem bylo prozkoumat zkušenost respondentů s extrémním zážitkem TT v širším kontextu jejich vlastních životů. Okrajově jsme se rovněž zaměřili na potenciální souvislost dlouhodobého pobytu ve tmě s vnímáním smrti, která je s konceptem TT historicky spjata skrze buddhistickou praktiku Yangtik. TT se v našem výzkumu ukazuje jako užitečná sebezkušenostní metoda, která je součástí dlouhodobého zájmu klientů o hlubší poznávání sebe sama i vnějšího světa a často navazuje na dřívější psychospirituální zážitky např. s regresní terapií, psychotropními látkami apod. Někteří participanti jsou přesvědčeni, že TT ovlivnila jejich rozhodování v důležitých životních otázkách (např. rozchod s partnerem), někteří v sobě v důsledku této zkušenosti „objevují“ dosud nepoznané „kapacity“ (např. telepatie, vzpomínky na minulý život). Souvislost TT s vnímáním smrti se objevuje pouze v případě některých respondentů, jiní si tento přístup naopak spojují spíše se životem. Všichni respondenti vnímají svoji zkušenost s TT pozitivně, většina dokonce s jistým nadšením.

Abstract:

Presented thesis is focused on the client's experience with a non-established practical called the Dark Therapy. The main methodological perspective is the narrative-oriented approach. The research sample consists of seven participants. Most of them underwent the seven-day stay in the dark at the chosen keeper's place 6 - 12 months before the research interview. We used the depth individual narrative interview with the simultaneously use of the Life Line and modified Morris's method Paths of Life. The main goal was to explore the participant's experience with the Dark Therapy in the broader context of their own lives. Peripherally we focused also on the potential relation of long stay in the dark with perception of death, which is connected with the Dark Therapy historically through the Buddhist practice called Yangtik. In our research the Dark Therapy proved to be an useful self-experience method which is the part of long-term client's interest in the deeper understanding of themselves and the whole world. Often it follows the earlier psycho-spiritual experience with e. g. regression therapy, usage of psychotropic substances etc. Some participants believe that the Dark Therapy has affected their decision-making on the important life issues (e. g. break up with partner), some of them have “discovered” previously unseen “capabilities” (telepathy, memories of past life) as a consequence of their stay in the darkness. The connection of the Dark Therapy with perception of death appears just in some cases, on the contrary some participants associate it more likely with the life. All participants perceive their experience with Dark Therapy in the positive way, the major part of them even with certain enthusiasm.
