Drug Abuse in Selby's Requiem for a Dream, Welsh's Trainspotting and Davies's Candy
Abstract:
This bachelor thesis deals with the theme of drug abuse in three distinctive novels in English from the end of the 20th century: Requiem for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr. (1978), Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh (1993), and the last novel Candy by Luke Davies (1997). The focus of this work is on the comparison of the style, reasons for starting a drug addiction, and life-stories of the protagonists. The …more

Tato práce se zabývá drogovou tématikou nad třemi výraznými díly anglofonní literatury konce dvacatého století: Requiem for a Dream Huberta Selbyho Jr. (1978), románem Trainspotting Irwina Welshe (1993) a románem Candy Luke Daviese (1997). Práce se zaměří na srovnání stylu, důvodů k závislosti a osudů protagonistů. Uváží rovněž specifický žánr literatury o drogách a posoudí filmová zpracování těchto …more
