Quality of Life and Life Satisfaction of the Czech Elderly (based on research project SHARE))

Abstract:

Práce je založená na sekundární analýze dat mezinárodního longitudinálního výzkumného projektu SHARE zabývajícího se stárnutím, zdravím a odchodem do důchodu lidí starších padesáti let. Jejím metodologickým cílem je určit, zda je index CASP-12 měřící kvalitu života nejstarších, použitelný v českém prostředí. V meritorní analýze jde pak především o určení několika nejdůležitějších aspektů ovlivňujících kvalitu života a životní spokojenost českých seniorů starších padesáti let. V teoretické části autor představuje dosavadní teoretická zjištění, zdůrazňuje specifičnost těchto konceptů u nejstarších jedinců a upozorňuje na možné metodologické problémy. Výsledky faktorové analýzy ukázaly, že index CASP-12 není možné použít v českém prostředí v jeho původní podobě. Položky se rozdělily do dvou faktorů – míry potěšení a seberealizace a míry autonomie V meritorní analýze se autor věnuje každému z konceptů zvlášť a pomocí lineární regrese vytváří deskriptivní modely. Ukázalo se, že životní spokojenost a kvalita života se v českém prostředí částečně prolínají. Oba koncepty významně ovlivňuje subjektivní pocit zdraví. Kvalitu života podmiňuje finanční situace a pocit užívání si života. Významným predátorem spokojenosti se ukázala být důvěra v ostatní lidi. Nepotvrdil se vliv aktivního stáří a objektivních faktorů, jako je pohlaví, stabilita vztahu, ekonomická aktivita či životní podmínky. U věku byl zjištěn jen slabý vliv.

Abstract:

This thesis is based on secondary analysis of international longitudinal research project SHARE which deals with aging, health and retirement of people older than fifty years. The methodological aim is to determine whether the CASP-12, index measuring the quality of life of the elderly, is usable in the Czech Republic in its original form. The main purpose of the empirical part is determining of the most important aspects influencing the quality of life and life satisfaction of Czech seniors over fifty years. In theoretical part the author introduces concepts of life satisfaction and quality of life, previous theoretical findings, highlights the specificity of these concepts in the case of the oldest people and draws attention to possible methodological problems. The results of the factor analysis showed that index CASP-12 is not usable for the Czech Republic. Items divided into two factors – the degree of pleasure and self-realization and the degree of autonomy. In the meritory analysis the author refers to each concept separately and produces descriptive models using linear regression. It turned out that life satisfaction and quality of life are partially overlapping. Subjective health is a strong predictor of both concepts. The quality of life is predicting by financial situation and feeling of enjoying life. Trust in other people has an important influence on life satisfaction. The influence of active aging and objective factors such as gender, relationship stability, economic activity and living conditions was not confirmed. There is only a weak influence of age on these concepts.
