The role of the European Union as a crisis resolution and crisis response actor in the Ukraine

Abstract:

The diploma thesis discusses about the role of the EU as a conflict resolution and crisis response actor in specific conflict in Ukraine. For the examination of the role was used the role theory in a way how some authors (f. e. Elgstroem, Smith) apply it on the EU. First part of the research is aimed to the theoretical introduction, clarification of the role theory application on the EU and research technique. In the second part, there is already the conception documents analysis – these documents are enlightening long-term identification of the EU as a conflict resolution and crisis response actor; afterwards analysis of the documents and speeches of the representatives of CFSP/CSDP in reaction towards Ukrainian conflict in the chosen period. The attention is rivet also on the expectation of other actors from the EU in the Ukrainian conflict, concretely representatives of foreign policy in Ukraine and Russian Federation. In the end, there is a summary of analysis results.

Abstract:

Daná diplomová práca sa zaoberá rolou EÚ ako aktéra riešenia konfliktov a crisis response v konkrétnom prípade konfliktu na Ukrajine. Pre skúmanie tejto roly bola použitá teória rol, ako ju niektorí autori (napr. Elgstroem, Smith) aplikujú na EÚ. Prvá časť výskumu je zameraná na teoretický úvod do problematiky, objasnenie aplikácie teórie rol na EÚ a priblíženie vlastného výskumu. V druhej časti je už samotná analýza koncepčných dokumentov, ktoré odhaľujú dlhodobú identifikáciu EÚ ako aktéra riešenia konfliktov a crisis response; ďalej analýza dokumentov a prejavov predstaviteľov SZBP/SBOP v reakcii na ukrajinský konflikt v sledovanom období, pričom je pozornosť upriamená aj na očakávania ďalších aktérov z hľadiska reakcie EÚ v ukrajinskom konflikte v sledovanom období, konkrétne predstaviteľov zahraničnej politiky Ukrajiny a Ruskej federácie. Na záver sú zhrnuté výsledky analýzy.
