Awareness of Contraception Among Female High School Students

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je informovanost studentek středních škol o antikoncepci. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a empirickou část. V teoretické části je definována antikoncepce, a dále je popsána historie a antikoncepční metody. Poslední kapitola teoretické části se zabývá sexuální výchovou na školách. Empirická část bakalářské práce je věnována realizovanému výzkumnému šetření. Pro ověření informovanosti studentek o antikoncepci jsou zvoleny dvě školy, a to Střední průmyslová škola oděvní v Praze a Střední zdravotnická škola v Berouně. Výzkum je realizován formou dotazníku, který zahrnuje jak otázky vědomostní, tak otázky zaměřené na osobní zkušenosti respondentek. Empirická část obsahuje stanovení hypotéz, vysvětlení metodiky a průběhu výzkumu, charakteristiku výzkumného souboru a interpretaci získaných dat. Na konci empirické části je vyhodnocení jednotlivých hypotéz a diskuze nad zjištěnými výsledky. Cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit míru informovanosti studentek středních škol o antikoncepci a navrhnout doporučení pro zlepšení. Na základě odpovědí studentek byly ve vědomostních otázkách úspěšnější studentky střední průmyslové školy oděvní. Výzkumným šetřením bylo dále zjištěno, že sexuální výchova na základních škola je nedostatečná. Významnou roli v informovanosti o antikoncepci by měla hrát sexuální výchova a spolupráce rodičů se školou. Na školách může být sexuální výchova doplněna o přednášku zdravotnického pracovníka přímo na toto téma. Informace o antikoncepci mohou být mladistvým i ženám předávány také během gynekologických prohlídek. Proto je důležité ze strany zdravotnických pracovníků neopomíjet edukaci pacientek a předávat jim dostatek potřebných informací o antikoncepci.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on awareness of contraception among female high school students. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, the contraception is defined, the history and contraception methods are described. The last chapter of the theoretical part is focused on sexual education in schools. The practical part is focused on the research conducted. For the student’s contraception knowledge level check, the following schools were chosen: High School of Fashion Industries in Prague and Medical High School in Beroun. The research is implemented in form of a questionnaire, which includes both knowledge-based and personal experience-based questions. The practical part includes determination of hypotheses, explanation of methodology as well as of the research conduction, description of the research file and interpretation of the obtained data. In conclusion of the practical part, there is the hypotheses evaluation and a discussion on the research outcomes. The aim of the thesis is to determine the level of awareness of contraception among female high school students and to propose improvement recommendations. Based on the students‘ replies, it can be stated, that more successful in the knowledge-based questions were the students of the high school of fashion industries. By the research, it was found that the sexual education in the grammar schools is not sufficient. A significant role in the awareness of contraception should play sexual education and collaboration between parents and their children’s school. In the schools, the sexual education can be extended by a lecture led by a healthcare professional. The information on the contraception can be passed to the youth and to adult women during gynecological examinations too. Therefore, it is important for the healthcare professionals to not forget to educate the patients and to provide them with sufficient information on the contraception.
