The influence of the solid/water ratio and the presence of carbon dioxide on water composition in equilibrium with bentonite

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vlivem poměru vody a přírodního bentonitu v závislosti na CO2 . Bentonit je jílová hornina, se kterou se počítá v rámci hlubinného úložiště radioaktivního odpadu, jako s možnou bariérou, která by měla chránit před únikem radioaktivního odpadu. Byl vybrán, z důvodů důležitých vlastností, jako je bobtnavost, plastičnost, tepelná vodivost či velice nízká schopnost propustnosti. Je velmi důležité, aby se tyto vlastnosti neměnily, a proto je kladen důraz na výzkum reakcí bentonitu s okolím. K experimentu byly vybrány dva typy bentonitu První typ se nazývá bentonit B75 a druhým zkoumaným bentonitem je bentonit Sabenil, jako saturační medium byla použita destilovaná voda. Následně se z této směsi vytvořily poměry 1:10, 1:20, 1:50 vždy s přístupem CO2 a bez přístupu CO2. Z výsledných experimentálních dat jsem vyhotovila grafy, ze kterých jsem popsala vývoj koncentrací látek. Na základě výsledků jsem vytvořila závěry, ze kterých vyplývá, že přítomnost CO2 zvyšuje koncentraci kationtů a z naměřených dat pH a Eh vyplývá, že pH má dva krát větší koncentraci protonů a Eh s přítomností CO2 má oxidačnější prostředí

Abstract:

The bachelors thesis deals with the influence of the ratio of water and bentonite, depending on CO2. Bentonite is a clay mineral which is considered to be a potencial barrier which should be protective from leakage of radioactive waste when exploring the repository of radioactive above mentioned. Bentonite was chosen due to variety of significant properties such as swelling, plasticity, thermal conductivity and very low through put capability. It is almost essential that these properties do not change and therefore the emphasis is put on research concerning reacting bentonite with the surroundings Tehre were two types of bentonite chosen for the experiment. The first type is called bentonite B75 and the second type which was explored is termed bentonite SABENIL. There was destilled water used as the saturation medium. From this concotion there were made samples with ration of 1:10, 1:20 and 1:50. With acces of carbondioxide or without. Final experimental results were drawn to the graphs, which describe the development of substances concentracions. Based on the results, there were conclusions created. They summarize interaction between bentonite and water, depending on the CO2. The results show that CO2 increases the concentration of cations and measured data resulting from the pH increases up to twice the concentration of protons and Eh with CO2 has more oxidations environment
