Glaucoma and Treatment in the Elderly

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na problematiku onemocnění glaukomem a jeho léčby u seniorů. Teoretická část práce obsahuje čtyři hlavní kapitoly. První část teoretické práce se zaměřuje na podstatu onemocnění glaukomem. Druhá část pojednává o diagnostice glaukomu a klinických příznacích. Ve třetí kapitole je rozebrána léčba glaukomu, a to jak z hlediska medikamentózní terapie, tak i chirurgické terapie. Poslední, z pohledu naší teze nejvýznamnější kapitolou teoretické části, je kvalita života při onemocnění glaukomem, zásady efektivní interakce se zrakově postiženými a komunikace se seniory s poruchou zraku. Druhou polovinu práce tvoří kvantitativní (dotazníkové) výzkumné šetření, jehož cílem bylo retrospektivně zobjektivizovat přístup a léčbu glaukomového onemocnění u vybrané populace seniorů. Zjistit, do jaké míry jsou pacienti s glaukomovým onemocněním informováni o své nemoci. Ověřit, jak senioři zvládají dodržování pravidelných kontrol a náročné vyšetřovací metody. Zjistit deklarované zvyklosti seniorů s glaukomovým onemocněním s ohledem na jejich finanční situaci - - cenovou dostupnost očních kapek. Zhodnotit spokojenost seniorů s léčbou. Práce je zaměřena na analýzu výsledků získaných během šetření u populace osob vyššího věku.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the issues of disease and glaucoma treatment in the elderly. The theoretical part consists of four main chapters. The first part of the theoretical work aims at the nature of the disease of glaucoma. The second part deals with the diagnosis of glaucoma and clinical symptoms. The third section analyses the treatment of glaucoma both in terms of medical therapy and surgical therapy. The last chapter, that is the most important from the point of view of our study, is focused on the quality of life with glaucoma disease, principles of effective interaction with visually afflicted patients and communication with senior citizens with defected vision. The second half of the thesis consists of quantitative (questionnaire) research its aim was to retrospectively generalize the approach and treatment of glaucoma disease in a selected population of seniors,to determine the extent of the awareness about their illness, to check how seniors handle regular medical checks and sophisticated methods of investigation, to determine the declared customs of seniors with glaucoma disease with regard to their financial situation - the affordability of eye drops and to assess the satisfaction of seniors with treatment. The aim of this study is to analyse the results obtained for the elderly population during the investigation.
