Reasons for the American Failure in the Vietnam War

Abstract:

This thesis is dedicated to the most controversial war in modern history - the War in Vietnam. The goal of this thesis is to reveal the reasons why the United States of America was defeated, despite its military superiority. The thesis will also try to point out the most crucial strategic mistakes that the Americans committed during this war. This thesis analyzes both the military aspects (such as weapons, gear, strategy and soldiers? moral) and the socio-political climate in Vietnam and the USA. This thesis also includes an analysis of the state apparatus which was implemented by the Americans into South Vietnam, and which had fatal consequences for the whole war. The output of this thesis is to suggest particular measures and strategies which would have helped the Americans to win the war.

Abstract:

Tato práce je věnována jedné z nejkontroverznějších válek moderní historie - válce ve Vietnamu. Cílem práce je odhalit důvody, proč byly Spojené státy americké (i přes značnou vojenskou převahu) poraženy, a také poukázat na největší strategické chyby, kterých se Američané v průběhu této války dopustili. Práce analyzuje jak aspekty vojenské (zbraně, výstroj, taktika, či morálka vojska), tak i tehdejší sociálně-politické klima ve Vietnamu a v USA. Práce také obsahuje analýzu podoby státního aparátu, který Američané do Jižního Vietnamu implementovali a který měl fatální následky pro celou válku. Výstupem práce je pak konkrétní návrh opatření a strategie, které by Američanům byly bývaly pomohly válku vyhrát.
