SPD as a right-wing populist entity

Abstract:

Obsahem bakalářské práce je analýza českého hnutí SPD. Hlavním cílem je zjistit, zda se jedná o populistický subjekt, či nikoliv. V akademické obci prozatím neexistuje shoda na definici populismu, avšak existuje několik základních přístupů, jak je možno populismus uchopit. Konkrétně lze na populismus nahlížet jako na specifický politický styl, politickou strategii nebo jako na neúplnou ideologie. Ve své práci jsem využila posledního zmíněného přístupu, se kterým přichází politický vědec Cas Mudde. K jeho teorii jsem přidal takzvané "jádrové znaky populismu" autora Francisca Panizzi. Těmito znaky jsou: 1) lidé a elity jako homogenní skupiny; 2) antagonistický vztah mezi lidem a elitou; 3) lid jako morální suverén. V analytické části mé práce je pozornost zaměřena na oficiální politický a volební program hnutí a aktivity hnutí na sociální síti Facebook. Pokud dojde k naplnění některého z vydefinovaných "jádrových znaků populismu", je programový bod nebo příspěvek na sociálních sítích označen jako populistický. Záměrem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, zda programatika hnutí a aktivity na sociální síti vykazují známky populismu, na základě čehož se snažím určit, zda můžeme skutečně označit SPD jako populistický subjekt.

Abstract:

The content of my bachelor thesis is an analysis of the Czech SPD movement. The main goal was to find out whether it was a populist entity or not. There is no consensus on the definition of "populism" within the academic community, but there are several basic approaches on how to understand populism. It might be a specific political style, a strategy or what Cas Mudde defines as a thin-centered ideology. In my work I used the last approach. To his theory I added the findings of Fracisco Panizzi, who defined the so-called "core features of populism". These points are: 1) the people and the elites as homogeneous groups; 2) the antagonistic relationship between the people and the elites; 3) the people as a moral sovereign. In the analytical part of my work, the attention was focused on the official political and election programmes of the movement and their activities on the social network Facebook. If one of the defined "core features of populism" was fulfilled, then the programme point or social media post was marked as populist. The aim of this bachelor thesis was to find out whether the programmmes and social network activities show signs of populism and finally, whether we can really label the SPD as a populist entity.
