Case study of day care centers for chidren under 3 in Brno

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is the analysis of affordability, accessibility and quality of nurseries for children below 3 years in Brno. Data has been collected through original research, which has been based on information from the web sites of nurseries, telephone calls with the founders or directors of these nurseries and the analysis of the legislative framework for providing nurseries for 3-year-old children and younger. PASW Statistics program was used to produce statistics from the acquired information. Afterwards, the qGIS program was used to visualize the statistics. The processed data was confronted with the mainstream discourse of both general and professional public. Our research is also an important argument regarding the need of social geography implication as well as reflection of private nurseries when dealing with institutional care for children below 3 years of age. Another goal of this study is to change the starting perspective of other studies from "nurseries do not exist but should" to "nurseries exists but they are not available everywhere and for everyone". The appendix includes a database of all nurseries for children below 3 years in Brno.

Abstract:

Cieľom predkladanej práce je analýza dostupnosti, dosiahnuteľnosti a kvality zariadení poskytujúcich starostlivosť pre deti do 3 rokov v meste Brne. Práca zahŕňa reflexiu režimov na úrovni ktorých je táto starostlivosť poskytovaná s prihliadnutím zriaďovateľa obce a súkromnej osoby. Dáta boli zbierané vlastným šetrením v podobe prehľadávania webových stránok jednotlivých zariadení, telefonických rozhovorov so zriaďovateľkami či riaditeľkami a analýzou legislatívneho rámca poskytovania rannej starostlivosti. Zo získaných údajov boli vytvorené štatistiky v programe PASW Statistics a vizualizované pomocou programu qGIS. Takto spracované dáta boli konfrontované s prevládajúcim diskurzom vo verejnej aj odbornej populácii. Toto šetrenie je zároveň základom pre argumentáciu ohľadom potreby implikácie sociálnej geografie a reflexie súkromných zariadení pri riešení problematiky inštitucionálnej starostlivosti pre deti do 3 rokov. Cieľom práce je tiež posunúť východiskovú perspektívu odborných prác od "Jasle neexistujú a mali by existovať" k "jasle existujú ale len niekde a pre niekoho". V prílohe práce je umiestnená databáza všetkých súčasných zariadení poskytujúcich starostlivosť v meste Brne.
