The relationship between the level of cognitive functions and motor docility in a selected group of 2nd grade elementary school students

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo ověřit existenci vztahu mezi úrovní naměřených kognitivních schopností a úrovní testované motorické docility u vybrané skupiny žáků 2. stupně základní školy v Děčíně. V teoretické části byly objasněny pojmy týkající se definice motorické docility a kognitivních schopností. Kognitivní funkce byly rozděleny do kategorie logické inteligence a vnímání. Metody jejich měření a testování byly provedeny pomocí nejznámějších a nejčastěji používaných testů. V práci jsou popsány metody měření užívané přímo pro naši cílovou skupinu žáků staršího školního věku. U samotných zvolených testů byly popsány postupy a metody měření s detailním zaměřením na jednotlivé kroky a cviky. V problematice vztahu kognitivních funkcí a motorické docility byly popsány a porovnány studie a odborné práce zabývající se problematikou ve světě i v Čechách. Blíže byl specifikován rozvoj kognitivních schopností i motorické docility v průběhu lidského života a jejich utváření v období staršího školního věku. V závěrečné části teoretického bloku byl objasněn význam sledovaných schopností v každodenním životě, jejich rozvoj a možné vzájemné ovlivnění. Výzkumu v praktické části se zúčastnilo 141 žáků z 2. stupně základních školy v Děčíně. Měření kognitivních schopností bylo provedeno pomocí komplexních testů ze serveru proskoly.cz, byly to testy se zaměřením na logickou inteligenci a vnímání. Testování motorické docility bylo provedeno pomocí Iowa Brace testu. Test obsahoval 10 cviků pro každého probanda dle rozdělení Štěpničky. Úspěšnost obou testů sledovala úroveň připravenosti a schopnosti řešit inteligenční i pohybový úkol bez předešlé přípravy a tréninku. Testování proběhlo bez zásadních omezení či zdravotních problémů dle plánovaného harmonogramu. Z výsledků vyplynulo, že mezi kognitivními schopnostmi a motorickou docilitou je statický významný vztah pouze chlapců. Rozdíly mezi pohlavím v dalších sledovaných parametrech byl statisticky nevýznamný. Práce nabízí možnosti dalšího testování, porovnávání a sledování podnětů, které mohou ovlivňovat sledované úrovně schopností.

Abstract:

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between measured cognitive abilities and motor docility in a selected group of 2nd-grade elementary school students in Děčín. The theoretical part of the work clarified the concepts of motor docility and cognitive abilities. Cognitive functions were divided into the categories of logical intelligence and perception. Methods for their measurement and testing were performed using the most well-known and frequently used tests. The work describes the measurement methods used specifically for our target group of older school-aged children. For the selected tests themselves, the measurement procedures and methods were described with a detailed focus on the individual steps and exercises. In the context of the relationship between cognitive functions and motor docility, studies and expert papers dealing with the issue both in the world and in the Czech Republic were described and compared. The development of cognitive abilities and motor docility throughout human life and their formation in the period of older school age were specified in more detail. In the final part of the theoretical block, the importance of the observed abilities in everyday life, their development, and possible mutual influence were clarified. The research in the practical part was attended by 141 students from the 2nd grade of elementary school in Děčín. The measurement of cognitive abilities was performed using complex tests from the server proskoly.cz, which were tests focused on logical intelligence and perception. Motor docility was tested using the Iowa Brace test. The test consisted of 10 exercises for each subject according to Štěpnička's classification. The success of both tests monitored the level of readiness and ability to solve intelligence and motor tasks without prior preparation and training. The testing was carried out without any major restrictions or health problems according to the planned schedule. The results showed that there is a statistically significant relationship between cognitive abilities and motor docility only in boys. The differences between genders in other observed parameters were statistically insignificant. The work offers possibilities for further testing, comparison, and monitoring of stimuli that may affect the observed levels of abilities.
