Ethnical Stereotypes of Adolescent Romanies growing in Czech Adoptive and Foster Families

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo zjištění, zda existují odlišnosti v etnických stereotypních postojích adolescentních Romů, kteří jsou vychovávání v bílé – neromské rodině v náhradní rodinné péči v porovnání s Romy žijícími a vychovávanými v biologických romských rodinách. Stereotypní postoje byly zjišťovány za pomoci testu implicitních asociací (IAT). Teoretická část práce poskytuje teoretický rámec a východiska výzkumu. Jsou zde předloženy informace týkající se postojů, stereotypů a předsudků. Dále informace týkající se historie Romů, stavu jejich současné identity a problematika etnicky odlišného dítěte v náhradní rodinné péči. Ve výzkumné části je podrobně popsán postup výzkumu, užité metody, sběr dat. Výzkumu se účastnilo celkem 42 osob, z toho 21 dětí romských z bílých náhradních rodin, které tvořily experimentální skupinu a 21 romských dětí z romských rodin tvořící skupinu kontrolní. Výzkumnou metodou měřící sílu asociací etnických stereotypních postojů byl test implicitních asociací. V tomto testu měli respondenti reagovat na předkládaná podnětová slova a řadit je do stereotypních či nestereotypních postojových kategorií. Stanovené hypotézy nebyly potvrzeny, avšak podrobná analýza výsledků odhalila určité tendence, které směřují k potvrzení hypotéz. Důvodem jejich neprokázání byla pravděpodobně nedostatečná velikost vzorku.

Abstract:

The aim of this dissertation is to explore if existing differences in the ethnic stereotype attitudes of the adolescent Romanies, who are brought up in the white non-Romany foster and adoptive family are different in comparison with those brought up in biological Romany family. The stereotype attitudes were examined by the test of implicit association (IAT) The first theoretical part deals with attitudes, stereotypes and prejudices as well as short excursion into the Romany history, the current state of Romany identity and issues regarding ethnically different child in the foster family. The second part of the dissertation describes in details the progress of the research, methods and the data capture. There have been 42 respondents who supplied information for the survey. Half of them were Romany children from white foster families, who were an experimental group. The second half of the respondents was brought up in Romany families who were set as a control group. The research method for measuring strength of association of the ethnic stereotype attitudes was IAT. The task for the respondents was to react on the incentive words and sort them in the stereotype or non-stereotype category. The pronounced hypotheses haven´t been confirmed, although the detailed analysis of results revealed certain tendencies heading up for confirmation of set hypotheses. The reason was probably not sufficient amount of surveyed sample.
