History, present and future of computer tomography investigation

Abstract:

V teoretické části své práce popisuji historii, vznik a vývoj jednotlivých generací CT přístrojů, principů a součástí CT zařízení. Dále jsou zde popsány detektorové systémy, způsoby zobrazování a postprocessing. V praktické části své bakalářské práce srovnávám počty CT a RTG vyšetření za období 8 let (r. 2000 -2008) ve Fakultní nemocnici Ostrava a snažím se zjistit, zda během těchto 8 let došlo k nárůstu CT vyšetření a snížení RTG vyšetření. Dále jsem vyhledávala, u jednotlivých pacientů vyšetřených pomocí výpočetní tomografie, indexy dávky (CTDI) a zjišťovala, zda za období 5 let došlo nárůstu této dávky. Závěrem jsem na základě získaných poznatků potvrdila hypotézu, že vyšetření výpočetní tomografií má vyšší radiační zátěž než vyšetření pomocí klasické skiagrafie rentgenem.

Abstract:

In the theoretical part of my thesis I describe the history, emergence and development of different generations of CT (computed tomography) devices, the underlying principle and component parts of CT equipment. In this section I also describe detector systems, imaging techniques, and postprocessing. In the practical part of my bachelor?s thesis I compare the number of CT and traditional X-ray exams performed at the Ostrava University Hospital over an eight-year period (2000-2008) and attempt to determine whether there was in that time an increase in CT scans and a decrease in traditional X-ray exams. I have also researched the dose indices (CTDI) of individual CT-examined patients and attempted to determine whether those indices increased over a five-year period. In my conclusion I confirm, on the basis of my collected data, the hypothesis that CT exams expose patients to higher radiation levels than do exams performed with classic X-ray radiography.
