Crisis Management Analysis of Lufthansa AG - Based on the example of Germanwings flight 9525

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na analýzu krizového řízení společnosti Lufthansa AG, a to na příkladu havárie letu Germanwings 9525, který se zřítil do Alp dne 24. března 2015, při níž zemřelo 150 lidí. Nehoda byla způsobena úmyslným jednáním druhého pilota, což způsobilo jednu z největších krizí v historii Lufthansy a její dceřiné společnosti Germanwings. Tato práce se zabývá analýzou procesů, postupů a opatření používané společností během krize. Hlavním cílem je navrhnout doporučení pro budoucí podobné situace. Výzkumná otázka zní, jak postupoval krizový management v dané situaci. Metodologií použitou v této práci je kvalitativní výzkum založený na příspěvcích na sociálních médiích, především na Twitteru, kde byly společnosti nejaktivnější. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou, metodologickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část popisuje základní charakteristiky krizového řízení a komunikace. Metodologická část vysvětluje použité výzkumné metody při analýze, zatímco praktická část představuje analýzu krizového řízení Lufthansy během havárie letu Germanwings 9525. Na konci práce jsou navrhnuta doporučení pro další letecké společnosti, které by se mohly ocitnout v podobné situaci.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of the crisis management of Lufthansa AG, using the example of the crash of Germanwings flight 9525, which crashed into the Alps on 24 March 2015, killing 150 people. The crash was caused by the deliberate actions of the co-pilot, resulting in one of the biggest crises in the history of Lufthansa and its subsidiary Germanwings. This thesis analyses the processes, procedures and measures used by the company during the crisis. The main objective is to propose recommendations for future similar situations. The research question is how crisis management proceeded in the situation. The methodology used in this thesis is qualitative research based on social media posts, especially on Twitter, where the companies were most active. The thesis is divided into theoretical, methodological and practical parts. The theoretical part describes the basic characteristics of crisis management and communication. The methodological part explains the research methods used in the analysis, while the practical part presents an analysis of Lufthansa's crisis management during the crash of Germanwings Flight 9525. At the end of the paper, recommendations are proposed for other airlines that might find themselves in a similar situation.
