Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá problematiku Politické korektnosti v anglicky mluvících zemích. Zatímco dříve byl termín „politická korektnost“ spojován zejména s jazykovými úpravami, které měly za cíl chránit přehlížené menšiny, později se stal synonymem širšího, spíše restriktivního politického přístupu dalece přesahujícího oblast lingvistiky. V tomto duchu sleduje diplomová práce vývoj používání tohoto výrazu, ale především se zaměřuje na jeho současné projevy, zejména ve Spojených Státech a dalších anglicky mluvících zemích. Velké úsilí bylo věnováno zjišťování, do jaké míry se společnosti v anglicky mluvících zemích zpolitizovaly, a to právě za přispění politické korektnosti, která v tomto trendu hraje klíčovou roli. K rozsáhlému pojednání o tomto tématu byla použita odpovídající literatura, řada elektronických zdrojů a také několik klasických románů.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the problematics of Political correctness in English-speaking countries. While previously the term “political correctness” was associated primarily with language alterations aiming at protecting marginalized minorities, more recently it became synonymous with a broader, rather restrictive political approach going far beyond the domain of linguistics. As such, the thesis observes the development of the term´s usage, but the special attention is paid to its current manifestations, namely in the United States and other English-speaking countries. An effort was made to find out to what extent English-speaking societies have become politicized, political correctness playing a key role in the process. Relevant books, numerous electronic resources, and a few classical novels were used to substantially cover the topic.
