Malayaite pigments with dopants

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce bylo připravit nové barevné pigmenty na bázi malayaitových sloučenin dopované nejen kobaltem a chromem, ale také dalšími prvky přechodných kovů a lanthanoidy. Malayaity jsou sloučeniny termicky odolné, proto jsou vhodným kandidátem jako hostitelská mřížka pro tvorbu vysokoteplotních pigmentů. V rámci této práce byly připraveny pigmenty typu CaSn0,9Co0,05M0,05SiO5?delta a CaSn0,935Cr0,015M0,05SiO5?delta , kde M = Ti, Zr, Cu, V, Ce, Nb, W, Mn, Ni. Jako druhá možnost dopování byla studována substituce lanthanoidových iontů na místě vápníku, tj. tvorba pigmentů na bázi Ca1-xLnxSnSiO5+delta, kde M = Ce, Y, Yb, Nd, Pr, Tb a x = 0,3; 0,2; 0,1; 0,05. Pigmenty byly připraveny klasickou keramickou metodou za použití dvoustupňového výpalu, kde u sloučenin typu CaSn0,9Co0,05M0,05SiO5?delta byly zvoleny teploty 1000 °C/1350 °C a u sloučenin CaSn0,935Cr0,015M0,05SiO5?delta byly teploty 1000 °C/1400 °C. V případě těchto dvou pigmentových řad byl sledován vliv použitého dalšího dopantu na barevné vlastnosti malayaitových pigmentů s chromem a kobaltem. Naopak v případě pigmentů typu Ca1-xLnxSnSiO5+delta byly studovány nejen vlivy lanthanoidů a množství dopantů, ale také vliv teploty výpalu na barevné vlastnosti pigmentů tohoto typu. Proto se u této řady vycházelo z teplot 1000 °C/1300, 1350, 1400 a 1450 °C. Všechny připravené pigmenty byly aplikovány do dvou různých pojivových systémů, jmenovitě bezolovnaté glazury P 07491 a akrylátové pojivové matrice, u nichž byly následně posuzovány jejich barevné vlastnosti v závislosti na typu dopantu či teplotě výpalu, dále byla u pigmentů stanovena velikost částic a rovněž bylo ověřováno fázové složení pigmentů. U zvolených pigmentů byla ještě sledována termická stabilita.

Abstract:

The main objective of this thesis was to prepare new color pigments based on malayaite compounds doped not only by cobalt and chromium, as well as other elements of transition metals and lanthanides. Malayaite compounds are thermally resistant, wherefore they are a good candidate as a host lattice for the formation of high-temperature pigments. In this work the pigments type of CaSn0,9Co0,05M0,05SiO5?delta and CaSn0,935Cr0,015M0,05SiO5?delta, where M = Ti, Zr, Cu, V, Ce, Nb, W, Mn, Ni were prepared. Substitution of doping lanthanide ions on place of calcium as a second possibility of compensation was studied, i.e. the formation of pigments based on Ca1-xLnxSnSiO5+delta, where M = Ce, Y, Yb, Nd, Pr, Tb and x = 0.3; 0.2; 0.1; 0.05. All the pigments were prepared by conventional ceramic method using a two-stage firing. The temperatures 1000 °C/1350 °C were chosen for compounds of CaSn0,9Co0,05M0,05SiO5?delta type and compounds CaSn0,935Cr0,015M0,05SiO5?delta temperatures 1000 °C/1400 °C. In the case of these two series pigment, the effect of dopants on the color properties of malayaite pigments with chromium and cobalt was studied. Conversely, in a case of Ca1-xLnxSnSiO5+delta pigment-type the influences not only lanthanides and quantity of dopants, but also the effect of firing temperature on the color properties of the pigments were studied. Therefore, these pigments were investigated at the temperatures of 1000 °C/1300, 1350, 1400 and 1450 °C. All prepared pigments were applied into two different binder systems, namely the lead-free glaze P 07491 and the acrylate binder matrix, subsequently color characteristics of studied pigments were evaluated in dependence on the type of dopant and the calcination temperature. Then particle sizes of pigments were determined and the phase composition of the pigments was verified too. Thermal stability has been studied for the selected pigments.
