Infulence of tobacco products on oral health

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce s názvem Vliv užívání tabákových výrobků na orální zdraví bylo zjistit, kolik pacientů se snažilo přestat kouřit, jestli jim někdy zubní lékař nebo dentální hygienistka nabídli pomoc a jestli by pacienti o tuto pomoc vůbec měli zájem. Dále se zabývá tím, nakolik jsou pacienti informováni o následcích kouření v dutině ústní a zjišťovala, u kolika pacientů se tyto patologické změny vyskytují. Práce se skládá z teoretické a praktické části a je rozdělena do 8 kapitol. V teoretické části je popsán vliv užívání tabákových výrobků na stav dutiny ústní a úloha dentální hygienistky při odvykání kouření. Praktická část se zabývá průzkumem informovanosti pacientů o vlivu kouření na stav dutiny ústní a výsledky vyšetření úst pacientů kuřáků. Zaznamenány byly změny na sliznicích i tvrdých zubních tkáních. Výsledkem této práce by měla být větší informovanost pacientů o vlivu kouření na dutinu ústní a dále informace pro dentální hygienistky, jak by mohli svým pacientům kuřákům pomoci.

Abstract:

The main focus of the bachelor’s thesis The Impact of Tobacco Product Use on Oral Health was to find out how many patients tried to quit smoking, if their dentist or dental hygienist tried to help them and if the patients would even be interested in their help. Furthermore I analyzed patients’ awareness about the impact of tobacco product use on the state of the oral cavity and examined how many of these patients had these pathological modifications. The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part divided into 8 chapters. The theoretical part describes the impact of tobacco product use on the state of the oral cavity and the role of a dental hygienist in smoking cessation. The practical part focuses on a survey of patient awareness about the impact of tobacco product use on the state of the oral cavity and the results of a dental examination of smoking patients. I recorded the modifications of mucosa and hard dental tissue. The result of this work should be a higher awareness of patients about the impact of tobacco product use on the state of the oral cavity and information for dental hygienists to be able to help their smoking patients.
