Effectiveness of cognitive function training in patients with mental disorder.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá efektivitu neurokognitivního tréninku na kognitivní funkce pacientů se schizofrenní a schizoafektivní poruchou pomocí neuropsychologických testů. Teoretická část pojednává o schizofrenii, kognitivních funkcích, kognitivním deficitu, psychosociální rehabilitaci, kognitivním tréninku a kvalitě života pacientů s poruchou schizofrenního spektra. Zahrnuje také aktuální poznatky o efektivitě neurokognitivního tréninku na kognitivní funkce a kvalitu života. Cílem výzkumné části je ověřit předpoklad, že pacienti s poruchou schizofrenního spektra budou po 7 týdnech intenzivního kognitivního tréninku skórovat v neuropsychologických testech lépe než před tréninkem. Dále byl zkoumán vztah mezi intenzivním kognitivním tréninkem a mírou kvality života těchto pacientů. Výsledky ukázaly, že pacienti po 7 týdnech tréninku skórovali lépe v oblasti verbální i vizuální paměti, vizuomotorických schopností, verbální fluenci a exekutivních funkcí včetně kognitivního odhadu. Efekt tréninku na kvalitu života pacientů se neprokázal.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with neurocognitive remediation of patiens with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. The study verifies the effect of cognitive training on cognitive functions by neuropsychological tests. The teoretical part of the thesis is focused on schizophrenia, cognitive functions, cognitive deficite, psychosocial rehabilitation, neurocognitive remediation and quality of live of patiens with schizophrenia. It includes current knowledge about the effectiveness of cognitive remediation on cognitive functions as well. The empirical part introduces a quantitative research that was conducted in this thesis. The main goal of the research was to verify the premise that patiens who will participate the neurocognitive training for 7 weeks will have better scores in neuropsychological tests than before the training. The second goal was to verify the effect of cognitive remediation on the quality of life of the patiens. The results of the research show a significant relationship between 7 weeks of intensive neurocognitive remediation and an improvement of cognition of patiens in area of verbal and visual memory, verbal fluency, executive funtions and visuospacial functions. The effect of training on the quality of life was not found.
