Teaching culture to EFL students throuh newspapers and magazines

Abstract:

The diploma thesis “Teaching Culture to EFL Students Through Newspapers and Magazines” develops the notions that culture is an important component of any EFL curriculum and that one of the best ways to teach English-speaking countries’ various cultures is through the use of English-language magazines and newspapers. It provides a pedagogical framework for the education of cultural constructs and the importance of authentic texts in accomplishing that goal. It includes several exercises that focus upon the various aspects of cultural instruction in an EFL classroom, including the identification of culturally significant images, events, and personalities, along with the development of their language skills in the native modalities of the target country’s written and spoken language. These exercises are adaptable to most grade levels by selecting the appropriate authentic texts.
