Music supervision in the film and television from production point of view

Abstract:

Tématem této diplomové práce je podrobný rozbor dvou filmových profesí: profese hudebního dramaturga ve filmovém a televizním průmyslu v České republice a profese music supervisor (hudební dramaturg) zastoupený v zahraniční audiovizi. Teoretická část práce ukazuje na vývoj, růst, stagnaci i současný stav obou těchto profesí. Výzkumná část si klade za cíl zjistit příčiny a důvody, proč v České republice není zastoupena profese hudebního dramaturga ve stejné míře, jako je tomu v zahraničí, a proč namísto toho vznikají ve filmovém a televizním průmyslu náhradní modely výkonu této profese. Součástí tohoto výzkumu je také zpracování statistické studie, založené na náhodném výběru audiovizuálních děl, natočených v České republice během posledních několika let, jejichž výsledná kategorizace a zařazení do jednotlivých modelů výkonů této profese ukazuje její současný stav v české audiovizi. Třetí, závěrečnou částí diplomové práce je zpracování dvouletého praktického projektu, nazvaného SCORO FILM, který se na základě uspořádání panelových diskuzí a masterclassů s profesionály v oboru zabývá absencí profese hudebního dramaturga v české audiovizi a zároveň řeší, jak již na školách docílit většího zájmu o tuto tématiku.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is a detailed analysis of two film professions: the profession of a music dramaturg in the film and television industry in the Czech Republic and the profession of music supervisor represented in foreign audiovisual industry. The theoretical part of the thesis shows the development, growth, stagnation and current state of both professions. The research part aims to find out the causes and reasons why the profession of music dramaturg is not represented in the Czech Republic to the same extent as it is abroad, and why alternative models of this profession are emerging in the film and television industry instead. This research also includes a statistical study based on a random selection of audiovisual works produced in the Czech Republic over the last few years, the resulting categorisation and classification of which into different models of performance of this profession shows its current state in the Czech audiovisual industry. The third and final part of the thesis is an elaboration of a two-year practical project called SCORO FILM which, on the basis of panel discussions and masterclasses with professionals in the field, deals with the absence of the profession of a music dramaturg in Czech audiovisual, and at the same time addresses how to achieve greater interest in this topic in schools.
