Controlling Factors for the River Pattern Development in the Natural Sections of the Sajó River

Abstract:

Tato práce sleduje přirozené úseky řeky Sajó v Maďarsku v období 1952–2011 a vliv faktorů ovlivňujících jejich půdorysný vzor. Studovanými faktory jsou chod průtoků a srážek, antropogenní zásahy a land use. Pro srážky byly vypočteny SPI a RAI. Antropogenní zásahy byly zjišťovány z volně dostupných dokumentů a z článku Bertalana a kol. (2019) a ovlivnění průtoků bylo studováno pomocí dvojné součtové čáry. Vliv eroze na kategorie land use byl otestován Mann-Whitney U testem. Sledovanými charakteristikami v úsecích Sajó jsou šířka aktivní zóny koryta, sinuosita, vývoj land use v blízké nivě, chod povodňových průtoků a chod eroze a akumulace. Zásadní pozorovanou změnou byl rozvoj lesní a křovinné vegetace podél toku, především na úkor trvalých travních porostů. Mann Whitney U test potvrdil, že lesní a křovinné porosty jsou statisticky významně méně erodovány než plochy orné půdy a trvalých travních porostů. V období 1952–1956 docházelo k výrazným laterálním posuvům a rozšiřování aktivní zóny koryta. Mezi lety 2005 a 2011 bylo dosaženo obdobného trvání povodňových průtoků, míra eroze však byla výrazně menší. Důvodem se jeví kontinuální nárůst lesních a křovinných porostů do roku 2011, které stabilizovaly a zúžily koryto i aktivní zónu koryta toku.

Abstract:

This thesis studies natural sections of the river Sajó in Hungary in the period 1952–2011 and impact of factors influencing their river pattern. The studied factors are flow and precipitation regime, anthropogenic interventions and land use. SPI and RAI were calculated for precipitation. Anthropogenic interventions were determined from freely available documents and from the article by Bertalan et al. (2019) and the influence of human activities on streamflow was studied using a double mass curve. The effect of erosion on the land use categories was tested by the Mann Whitney U test. The observed characteristics in the Sajó sections are the width of the active zone of the channel, sinuosity, flood flows regime, the development of land use in the nearby floodplain and the erosion and accumulation regime. A major change observed was the development of forest and shrub vegetation along the stream, mainly at the expense of permanent grasslands. The Mann Whitney U test confirmed that forest and shrub vegetation are statistically significantly less eroded than arable land and permanent grassland. Between 1952 and 1956, there were significant lateral shifts and widening of the active zone of the river channel. A similar duration of flood flows was achieved in the period 2005–2011, however, the rate of erosion was significantly lower. The reason seems to be the continuous increase of forest and shrub vegetation until 2011, which stabilized and narrowed the river channel as well as the active zone of the channel.
