Angelika Kauffmann: Grieving Kallypso

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá obrazem od Angeliky Kauffmanové s názvem Truchlící Kalypsó. Obraz pochází z let 1775 až 1778 a nyní se nachází v Muzeu umění Olomouc. Práce se v první části zabývá životem autorky, situací ženských malířek v 18. století a pohledem na ženské umělkyně obecně. Druhá část práce obsahuje popis a ikonografii obrazu Truchlící Kalypsó, jeho původ a srovnání s jinými díly od Angeliky Kauffmanové ze stejné doby se stejným námětem. Poslední kapitola pojednává o teorii obrazu jako velmi zdařilé dobové kopie.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis deals with a painting by Angelica Kauffman called Mourning Calypso. The painting dates from 1775 to 1778 and is now located in the Olomouc Museum of Art. The first part of the thesis deals with the life of the author, the situation of female painters in the 18th century and the view on female artists in general. The second part of the thesis contains a description and iconography of the painting Mourning Calypso, its origin and comparison with other works by Angelica Kauffman from the same time with the same theme. The last chapter deals with a theory about the painting being a very well executed period copy.
