Activity of architect Arthur Corazza in Jihlava and development of his buildings

Abstract:

Záměrem této práce je představit německy mluvícího architekta Arthura Corazzu narozeného v Sasku a později žijícího v severních Čechách, který působil v první čtvrtině 20. století v Jihlavě. Je to první ucelená práce zabývající se tímto architektem a cílem bylo zmapovat jeho jihlavskou stavební činnost, utvořit soupis jeho staveb, tyto stavby popsat na základě informací a stavebních plánů získaných především ve Státním okresním archivu v Jihlavě a zjistit jejich osud a současný stav na základě terénního průzkumu. Dalšími úkoly bylo dát stavitelovu činnost do souvislosti se soudobou jihlavskou architekturou a architekturou jiných německy mluvících projektantů a zhodnotit stavby z hlediska památkové péče. Práce stručně představuje i architektův život a především zahrnuje i ukázky plánové dokumentace a dávné i současné fotografie.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to present Arthur Corazza, German-speaking architect born in Saxony who later moved to northern Bohemia and during the first quarter of the 20th century he lived and worked in Jihlava. Being the first complex literary work focused on this architect, the thesis aims to make overall survey of his architectural activities in Jihlava, to present comprehensive list of his buildings, including description based on information and projects mostly acquired from Jihlava State Regional Archives. Subsequent field survey examined development of the buildings in the course of time and brought their present picture. Another target was to see the work of Arthur Corazza within the context of current Jihlava architecture and works of other German-speaking architects, and to evaluate the buildings in terms of historical monument preservation. The thesis also presents a brief picture of the architect?s life and, above all, samples of building documentation and both current and authentic period photographs.
