The role of old and new media in the everyday life of blue collar workers

Abstract:

Výzkumná diplomová práce analyzuje pomocí explorativního kvalitativního výzkumu prostřednictvím dvanácti polostrukturovaných rozhovorů mediální uživatelské praxe manuálních pracovníků - příslušníků blue collars ve věku 20 – 30 let. Předmětem bádání je konstrukce mediálního celku, v jehož rámci uživatelé prožívají svou každodennost za účelem naplnění individuálních a sociálních potřeb. Cílem je porozumět roli starých a nových médií v životě sociálních aktérů disponujících specificky profesně kotvenou sociální identitou. Výsledných pět kategorií je spolu s odpověďmi na výzkumné otázky shrnuto v diskusi v závěrečné části práce, jejíž cílem je doložit teoretické teze sumarizované v předchozích kapitolách.

Abstract:

This research master thesis analyses media usage practices of manual workers aged 20 – 30 years. The aim is to identify the construction of media ensamble within which users live their everyday lives in order to fulfil their individual and social needs. By using explorative qualitative research, twelve semi-structured interviews are analyzed in the empirical part of the work. The goal of the thesis is to understand the role of old and new media in the life of social actors, who are endowed with specific occupational social identity anchor. There are presented five resulting categories in the discussion together with answers to research questions in order to demonstrate theoretical arguments summarized in the previous chapters.
