Knowledge of safe preparation and administration of intravenous drugs to paediatric patients by nurses working on children´s wards

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem bakalářské práce bylo zjistit úroveň znalostí všeobecných sester a sester specialistek pracujících na vybraných dětských odděleních Vítkovické nemocnice, a.s. v oblasti bezpečné přípravy a podávání intravenózních léčivých přípravků a porovnat rozdíly ve znalostech všeobecných sester z hlediska dosaženého vzdělání v oboru, zjistit výskyt pochybení při nakládání s léčivými přípravky a zjistit výskyt medikačních pochybení na pracovištích. Metodika: Zkoumaný soubor tvořilo 50 respondentů. Dotazníkové šetření probíhalo v období od 2. ledna do 28. února 2017 na čtyřech vybraných odděleních Vítkovické nemocnice, a.s. v Ostravě. Ke sběru dat byl použit nestandardizovaný dotazník vlastní konstrukce, vytvořený pro potřeby průzkumu. Výsledky: Prostřednictvím dotazníků byla hodnocena úroveň znalostí respondentů v problematice intravenózní farmakoterapie ve vztahu k jejich nejvyššímu dosaženému vzdělání a ve zkušenostech v problematice medikačních chyb. Vyhodnocením dotazníků vyplynulo, že respondenti se dopouštějí pouze minimálního pochybení v přípravě a aplikaci intravenózních léčivých přípravků. Jsou však patrné rozdíly ve farmakoterapeutických znalostech ve vztahu k dosaženému vzdělání. Z dalších výsledků vyplynula skutečnost, že žádný respondent nezaznamenal medikační chyby na svém pracovišti a ani neuvedl skutečnost, že by se kdy chyby sám dopustil, ačkoliv všichni respondenti se ve vysokém procentu (100 %, 70 % a 54 %) shodli na třech nejdůležitějších příčinách medikačních chyb. Závěr: Výzkumné šetření prokázalo, že většina respondentů má velmi dobré znalosti v oblasti farmakoterapie, zná příčiny medikačních chyb, umí je rozpoznat a pojmenovat, avšak medikační chyby na odděleních nejsou zaznamenány a hlášeny jako nežádoucí událost.

Abstract:

Objective: the aim of the thesis was to determine the level of knowledge of General nurses and nurses best specialists working on selected children's wards of Vítkovice hospital a.s. in the area of the safe preparation and administration of intravenous drugs and compare the differences in knowledge of General nurses in terms of educational attainment in the field, to determine the incidence of misconduct in the handling of medicinal products and to determine the occurrence of medication errors in the work place. Methodology: the Investigated group consisted of 50 respondents. Survey was conducted in the period from 2. January 28. February 2017 to the four selected departments of the Vítkovice hospital, and.with. in Ostrava. To collect data was used a non-standardised questionnaire of its own design, created for the needs of this study. Results: Through the questionnaires was evaluated by the level of knowledge of the respondents in the issue of intravenous drug therapy in relation to their highest achieved education, and experience in the issue medikačních errors. Evaluation of the questionnaires showed that the respondents commit only minimum misconduct in the preparation and application of intravenous medicinal products. They are, however, noticeable differences in pharmacotherapeutic knowledge in relation to achieved education. Of the other results revealed the fact that no respondent recorded the medication errors at their workplace and even failed to mention the fact that when the error itself had committed, although all respondents in a high percentage (100 %, 70 % and 54 %) agreed on the three most important causes of medication errors. Conclusion: the Research showed that most respondents have very good knowledge in the field of drug therapy, he knows the causes of medication mistakes, can recognize and name, but medication errors on the wards are not recorded and reported as an adverse event.
