The Concept of Totalitarianism is Based on the Work of K. R. Popper and H. Arendt

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na pojetí totalitarismu u Karla Raimunda Poppera a Hannah Arendtové. Cílem práce je srovnat jejich odlišné přístupy k této problematice. Arendtová se snaží nalézt kořeny totalitního jevu především zkoumáním totalitní praxe bolševického a nacistického režimu. Vyvozuje, že se totalitním režimům podařilo vytvořit úplně novou formu vlády, která v dějinách nemá obdoby a upozorňuje na skutečnost, že s námi tato nová forma vlády s největší pravděpodobností přetrvá jako nebezpečná možnost a pokušení, kdykoli si nebudeme vědět rady s našimi politickými, sociálními nebo ekonomickými problémy. Naproti tomu Popper chápe totalitarismus zcela jiným způsobem jako fenomén, jež je součástí naší civilizace a naší historie. Myšlenky totalitarismu podle něj totiž prorůstají určitým druhem sociální filosofie – od antické filosofie až po současnost. Z toho důvodu kritizuje v první řadě Platónovu sociální filosofii, která dle jeho interpretace velkou měrou inspirovala moderní filosofické teorie tohoto typu např. u Hegela a Marxe. Popper i Arendtová názorově souzní při řešení problematiky totalitarismu a to tak, že oba vyzývají k boji proti němu, aktivní ochraně svobody a práv člověka.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis acquaints us with the conception of totalitarianism of Karl Raimund Popper and Hannah Arendt. The main aim of the thesis is to compare Popper’s and Arendt’s approaches to the problems of totalitarianism. Arendt tried to trace the roots of the totalitarian phenomenon and she analyzed mainly practice of totalitarian Stalinist Communism and Nazism. Arendt argued that Stalinist Communism and Nazism created new forms of government. Popper analyzed totalitarianism, on the basis of historicism and his theory of closed and open society. Popper criticizes mainly Plato´s ideal state, which inspired modern philosophic theories of Hegel and Marx. Popper and Arendt encouraged the fight against totalitarianism. They also supported the protection of freedom and human rights.
