Abstract:

Práce záčíná zkoumáním pozdní filozofie Martina Heideggera na jazyk, poezii a umění. Dívá se na způsob, jakým Heidegger chápe jazyk a poezii, jako na prostor, ve kterém jsou vytvořeny "bytí" a "pravda". Jazyk je viděn jako "dům bytí", prostor, ve kterém lidskost sama je přenesena na bytí svou schopností pojmenovat věci a pojmy v jejich prostředí. Toto má zvláštní význam pro umění a poezii. Díky tomuto Heidegger věří, že pravda je ustanovena vzájemným působením, zápasením lidského "světa" a nelidské "země" v básni. Díky tomuto porozumění má básník zvláštní počáteční roli, kterou hraje při zrodu bytí a pravdy v básni. Tato diplomová práce poté aplikuje tuto Heideggerovu teorii na americké puritánské a transcendentalistické myšlenky, aby určila, jak je tento přístup k "bytí" a "pravdě" realizován během vzestupu filosofického pojetí samotného národa a jeho světa. Přístup je poté pochodem k myšlenkám o vztahu mezi bohem, lidskostí a přírodou, které mohly ovlivnit stejnou teorii, se kterou Heidegger zkoumá jazyk a umění. Nakonec jsou analyzována díla třích moderních amerických básníků, Wallace Stevense, Jamese Merrilla a A. R. Ammonse, aby určila, zda stopy tohoto historického pohledu, kombinovány s Heideggerovým pojetím, mohou být nalezeny ve stylu a funkci jejich poezie a také v rolích samotných básníků. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována tomu, jak každý z básníků odráží nebo neodráží myšlenku amerických puritanistů, Jonathana Edwardse, Ralpha Waldo Emersona a samotného Martina Heideggera.

Abstract:

This thesis begins with an examination of the later philosophy of Martin Heidegger on language, poetry, and the work of art. It looks at the way Heidegger understands language and poetry as the space in which "Being" and "Truth" are established. Language is seen as the "house of being", a space in which humanity itself is brought into being by its ability to name the things and concepts in its environment. This has a special significance for the work of art and poetry. It is by these that Heidegger believes that truth is established, through the interaction, the striving, of the human "world" and the non-human "earth" in the poem. It is due to this understanding that the poet has a special, iniciatory, role to play in the bringing forth of being and truth in the poem. The thesis then applies this Heideggerian theory to American Puritan and Transcendentalist thought in order to determine how this approach to "being" and "truth" has worked its way out in the rise of the nation's philosophical conception of itself and its world, a working toward ideas on the relationship between God, humanity, and nature that may have influenced the very theory with which Heidegger examines language and the work of art. Finally, the work of three modern American poets, Wallace Stevens, James Merrill, and A. R. Ammons, is analyzed in order to determine whether traces of this historical view, coupled with the Heideggerian concepts, can be found in the style and function of their poetry, as well as in the roles of the poets themselves. Special attention is given to how each poet does or does not reflect the thought of the American Puritans, Jonathan Edwards, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Martin Heidegger himself.
