Nacional myths in the history of European nations

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce analyzuje charakter a význam národních mýtů v průběhu evropských dějin a snaží se ukázat, jakou roli sehrály při vytváření dějin, a jakým způsobem ovlivnily proces utváření národní identity evropských národů. Nejprve je věnována pozornost pojmu národ a konstrukci národní identity, zabývá se jejich různými interpretacemi se snahou o jejich definování. Prací se prolíná fenomén nacionalismu, který pomocí mytologické konstrukce vytvářel a formoval moderní národní identitu. Pozornost je zaměřena na charakter a význam mýtů zejména třech evropských národů a to českého, francouzského a německého.

Abstract:

This thesis analyzes the nature and importance of national myths in European history and tries to show the role played in the creation of history and how it affected the process of shaping the national identity of European nation. First attention is paid to the concept of nation and the construction of national identity, dealing with their different interpretations of the effort to define them. Work pervades the phenomenon of nationalism, which created and shaped the modern national identity through mythological structures. Attention is focused on the nature and significance of myths in particular the three European nations, the Czech, French and German.
