Counterterrorism policy of EU

Abstract:

Má diplomová práce pojednává o problematice soudobého terorismu, který představuje jeden z fenoménů 21. století. V této práci bych ráda charakterizovala definici terorismu a základní pojmy s ním spjaté a zároveň tak uvedla na pravou míru některá základní fakta o tomto jevu. Budu se podrobněji věnovat i typologii terorismu, motivaci, prostředkům jeho páchání a způsobu realizace teroristických útoků. Další důležitou část bude tvořit vymezení teroristických skupin, systém jejich fungování, zdroje financování a přiblížení nejznámějších organizací svého druhu, jak v letech minulých, tak současných. Detailněji rozeberu bezpečnostní politiku pro boj s terorismem, a to jak v oblasti globální, tak evropské a národní. Posléze se pokusím všechny poznatky získané při psaní této práce uplatnit na konkrétních příkladech z praxe a zároveň zakomponovat detailní analýzu terorismu, jeho vývoje, současného stavu a hrozeb na území Evropské unie. Doufám, že má práce poslouží jako stručný průvodce oblastí terorismu a obeznámí čtenáře podrobněji s tématikou protiteroristické politiky.

Abstract:

My master’s thesis deals with the issue of contemporary terrorism, which represents one of the phenomena of the 21st century. In this thesis, I would like to characterize the definition of terrorism and the basic terms associated with it, and at the same time put some basic facts about this phenomenon into perspective. I will also focus in more detail on the typology of terrorism, motivation, means of committing it and the way terrorist attacks are carried out. The next part of the section will be the definition of terrorist groups, their system, sources of funding and an overview of the functioning of the most famous organizations of their kind, both in the past and in the present. I will discuss in more detail the security policy for the fight against terrorism, in the global, European, and national spheres. Finally, I will try to apply all the knowledge gained while writing this thesis to concrete examples from practice and at the same time incorporate a detailed analysis of terrorism, its development, current state, and threats in the territory of the European Union. I hope that my work will serve as a brief guide to the area of terrorism and familiarize the reader with the topic of counterterrorism policy.
