Depressiveness in Adolescence, Loneliness and Selected Factors of Family Environment

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na téma depresivity u adolescentů a jejím vztahem k osamělosti a vybraným faktorům rodinného prostředí. Teoretická část se skládá ze dvou kapitol - první je věnovaná vybraným charakteristickým rysům adolescence a druhá depresivitě u adolescentů. Cílem výzkumu bylo zmapovat výskyt a závažnost depresivity u českých adolescentů. Dílčím cílem bylo prozkoumat, zda závažnost depresivity koreluje s mírou osamělosti a subjektivním hodnocením rodinného prostředí. Pro výzkum byl zvolen kvantitativní design realizovaný jednorázovým dotazníkovým šetřením. Dotazníková baterie sestávala z Beckovy sebeposuzovací škály deprese (Beck Depression Inventory - BDI-II), Škály osamělosti (UCLA Loneliness Scale) a Dotazníku rodinného systému (DRS-R). Výzkum zahrnoval 158 studentů vysokých škol ve věku 18-22 let, z toho bylo 98 žen a 60 mužů. Dospěli jsme k následujícím zjištěním. Soubor obsahoval 31 % depresivních respondentů (49 osob), z toho bylo 26 žen a 23 mužů. Prevalence zvýšené depresivity byla násobně vyšší, než je uváděna v normativních šetřeních z České republiky i zahraničí. Nebyl zjištěn statisticky významný genderový rozdíl ve výskytu depresivity. Rovněž v závažnosti depresivity nebyl zjištěn genderový rozdíl. Korelační analýza poukázala na statisticky významný vztah rodinného prostředí a depresivity (zejména u dimenzí: úroveň rodinného soužití; koheze; emocionalita; kontrola chování; normy, pozice, role; řešení problémů; autonomie; rodinné hranice). U mužů byla zjištěna pouze významná negativní korelace depresivity s dimenzí rodinné hranice. Taktéž byl zjištěn statisticky významný vztah mezi závažností depresivity a mírou osamělosti - muži korelovali více než ženy (r = 0,710).

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the topic of depressiveness in adolescents and its relationship to loneliness and selected factors of the family environment. The theoretical part consists of two chapters - the first is focused on selected characteristics of adolescence and the second on depressiveness in adolescents. The aim of the research was to map the incidence rate and the level of depressiveness in Czech adolescents. The sub-objective was to explore whether the level of depressiveness correlates with the level of loneliness and subjective evaluation of the family environment. A quantitative design implemented by a one-off questionnaire survey was chosen for the research. The questionnaire battery consisted of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), the UCLA Loneliness Scale, and the Family System Questionnaire (DRS-R). The research involved 158 university students aged 18-22, of which 98 were women and 60 were men. We have reached the following findings. The sample contained 31% of respondents with depressive symptoms (49 people), of whom 26 were women and 23 were men. The prevalence of increased depressiveness was many times higher than reported in normative surveys from the Czech Republic and abroad. There was no statistically significant gender difference in the incidence rate of depressiveness. There was also no gender difference in the level of depressiveness. The correlation analysis showed statistically significant relationship between the family environment and depressiveness (especially in the dimensions: level of family coexistence; cohesion; emotionality; behaviour control; norms, positions, roles; problem solving; autonomy; family boundaries). In regards to men, only a significant negative correlation of depressiveness with the family boundary dimension was found. There was also a statistically significant relationship between depressiveness and loneliness - men correlated more than women (r = 0,710).
