Preparations for the Future Enlargement of the Euro Area

Abstract:

Předmětem této diplomové práce: Přípravy pro budoucí rozšíření eurozóny (aplikace francouzských zkušeností na ČR) je prozkoumání ekonomických a časových souvislostí vstupu České republiky do eurozóny a příprav na tento krok. Po přehledu teoretických předpokladů úspěšného zapojení se do měnové unie jsou tyto podmínky aplikovány na Českou republiku. Následně je pozornost zaměřena na Francii – využívané ke srovnání: na její ekonomické charakteristiky při vstupu do eurozóny, způsob, jakým se na přijetí společné měny připravovala, i její fungování v rámci eurozóny. Postup francouzských příprav je analyzován tak, aby mohly být identifikovány zdařilé kroky využitelné i v České republice. Poslední část práce je věnována otázce načasování vstupu České republiky do eurozóny a důsledkům, které by na ekonomiku, obyvatelstvo i podniky mělo příliš brzké resp. příliš pozdní přijetí společné měny.

Abstract:

The aim of the submitted thesis: Preparations for the future enlargement of the Euro Area (application of the French experiences on the case of the Czech Republic) is to explore the economic and temporal implications of adopting the euro in the Czech Republic and the preparations for this step. First are presented the theoretical conditions of a successful integration into a monetary union, which are applicated on the case of the Czech Republic. The attention is next drawn to France – used as a benchmark: to its economic characteristics at the time of its own integration into Euro Area, the process of its preparations for the changeover of its currency and to its performance under the Euro Area. French method of preparations is then analyzed and its strong points – which could be applicated in the Czech Republic – identified. The last chapter of this thesis deals with the timing of the entry of the Czech Republic into the Euro Area and its implications (for Czech economy, inhabitants and companies) if this changeover was made either too early or too late.
