Bike-sharing as an ideal way of increasing the transport sustainability in the city of Pardubice

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou zavedení bikesharingu v krajském městě Pardubice. V současné době je toto téma ve fázi jednání mezi členy vedení města, což ho činí velmi aktuálním. S rozvojem fenoménu sdílené ekonomiky se začaly objevovat služby, které nabízejí alternativy ke klasickému cestování. V mnoha městech v České republice, ale i ve světě, je již bikesharing plnohodnotnou součástí dopravního systému a nabízí rychlou, ekologickou a moderní alternativu dopravy. V Pardubicích však tento systém stále chybí, přičemž cyklistika tu zde má velmi vysokou oblibu a značnou historii. I přes skutečnost, že byl bikesharing v Pardubicích již jednou neúspěšně zaveden, jsou zástupci vedení města velmi odhodlaní tuto službu občanům zpřístupnit. Práce se proto zaměřuje na jednotlivé přístupy k udržitelnosti, rozvoji i aplikaci těchto principů v dopravě, mapuje různé projekty sdílení kol ve světě a jmenuje předpoklady bikesharingu společně s jeho pozitivními i negativními efekty. Nakonec hodnotí přístup města k principu udržitelné dopravy, dopravní situaci ve městě a navrhuje možnost řešení bikesharingu v Pardubicích.

Abstract:

This master thesis deals with the initiation of bikesharing system in the Pardubice city. Currently this topic is being discussed among the municipal representatives, which makes it even more relevant. With the rise of the sharing phenomenon, alternatives to the traditional ways of transport have started to appear. Bikesharing has already become a self-standing transport system in many cities in the Czech Republic as well as in the world as it provides its users with a fast, eco-friendly and modern way of transport. Yet a similar system is still missing in Pardubice even though there is a massive cycling culture and history. The municipal representatives are really determined to bring this transport option to all citizens of Pardubice despite the fact that the previous bikesharing attempt has failed. This thesis focuses on the various approaches to sustainability, development and inclusion of these thoughts in transportation, names different bikesharing projects in the world and points out the system’s assumptions, pros and cons. In the end it rates the municipal representatives’ approach to the sustainability transport principles, current transport situation in the city and suggests the optimal way to the bikesharing introduction in Pardubice.
