Empirical testing of the relationship between companies' sizes and their market multiples

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce uvádí teoretické důvody, proč by společnosti s menší tržní kapitalizací mohly být obchodované za menší násobky zisku a tržeb než společnosti s větší tržní kapitalizací a tuto hypotézu testuje na evropských společnostech obchodovaných na evropských burzách ke konci roku 2022. Provedená analýza potvrzuje vztah mezi velikostí společností a velikostí jejich tržních násobků EV/EBITDA, EV/Sales a P/E v rámci agregovaného evropského trhu. Čím je společnost větší tím se obecně obchoduje za větší násobek zisku a tržeb.

Abstract:

This thesis provides theoretical reasons why companies with smaller market capitalizations might be trading at lower earnings and sales multiples than companies with larger market capitalizations and tests this hypothesis on European companies trading on European stock exchanges at the end of 2022. The analysis performed confirms the relationship between the size of companies and the size of their market multiples EV/EBITDA, EV/Sales and P/E in the aggregated European market. The bigger the company the higher the multiple of profits and sales that the company is trading at.
